STARR PROGRAM

Explore Aerospace Engineering: A Summer Opportunity for UK Students

Well this was a wonderful two days of filming up at RAF Cosford in the midlands, filming young people and planes.  What’s not to love?  And inspiring educational journey, STAAR is fully funded by Northrop Grumman and the Northrop Grumman Foundation, hosted at the RAF Museum’s Midlands site and RAF Cosford, with support from TA Education.

Students aged 14-15 across the UK with a passion for science and technology have an exciting opportunity to explore aerospace engineering and technology this summer, thanks to the Royal Air Force Museum and Northrop Grumman UK's Summer Time Advanced Aerospace Residency (STAAR) programme.

STAAR is an immersive, week-long residential programme aimed at inspiring young minds in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Participants will dive into hands-on activities such as flying drones, using flight simulators, and exploring aviation engineering. They will also get exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to the RAF Museum and RAF Cosford, allowing them to enrich their knowledge of aerospace in a fun and engaging environment.

Throughout the programme, students will work on real-world challenges, applying what they’ve learned to solve problems in aerospace technology. Mentors from the RAF and industry experts will guide them, sharing valuable insights and experiences that could shape their future careers.

Lucy Watkiss, Access & Learning Officer at the RAF Museum, said:
“The STAAR programme is not just an educational opportunity; it's a thrilling adventure into the world of aviation. We hope to inspire the next generation of engineers, aviators, and innovators, cultivating a love for STEM and helping students pursue their dreams.”

Students with a keen interest in STEM subjects can apply online, with the support of a teacher, school representative, or organization leader.
